Investment Property Owners Association of Nova Scotia

IPOANS BULLETINS

IPOANS Bulletin 21 Feb 2012
Who will you nominate?
The Income Property Owners Association of Nova Scotia (IPOANS) comes together for one special evening each year to discuss current affairs and events, the Annual General Meeting. This year the AGM is scheduled to take place Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
Throughout the evening there will be committee updates, ICAM graduate presentations, Door prizes and attention getting keynote speakers. We will also be recognizing outstanding accomplishments by the industry's best and brightest with the 2nd Annual Innovation and Excellence Awards.
We believe that in order to improve as an industry we must recognize and learn from our peers. We believe an awards ceremony is the best way to acknowledge the trendsetters as well as community leaders. This year's categories are; Pillar of the Community, Development of the Year, Income Property Owner of the Year, Property Manager of the Year and a brand new category, the Industry Rising Star.
It will be an event that will involve staff and property owners alike, as well as giving recognition to our industries innovators while recapping IPOANS achievement, driving membership and taking member involvement to a new level. Click Here to read Award catagories....

Wasting water is weird video
IPOANS Vice President Peter Polley was at a presentation this week and one of the topics of discussion was "how do we get people to reduce their water consumption" ?? This was studied extensively as part of a campaign to be launched in the US over the next few months as part of a nation-wide effort to reduce water consumption. The group found that the best way to get people to reduce consumption was to point out to people that it is simply ridiculous to waste water - that water is an expensive resource (and getting scarce in the Southern US). The group has developed a campaign called "Wasting water is weird". I plan to send this to all of our tenants to educate and encourage them to reduce water usage. I have provided the link below for the campaign. I hope that you may find it useful. I am sure that this group has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this effort, and we should be able to use it for free. www.wastingwateris weird.com

IPOANS efforts successful at Law Amendments (13 Dec 2011)
We have positive news concerning the proposed content of RTA Bill 110 reported in our IPOANS Bulletin of December 1, 2011. On November 27, 2011, a letter, written by our Legislative Chair, Peter Polley, was delivered to the Legislative Council and all members of the Law Amendments Committee. The letter expressed our concern that the wording of the amendment that limited the awarding of unpaid rent to the month in which the demand for payment is made.

On Thursday, November 28, 2011 five members of IPOANS made representation to the Law Amendments Committee expressing their concern that the demand for payment should include all outstanding rent and any other lease related charges.

We are pleased to report that the Committee responded favorably to our presentations and that RTA Bill 110 has gone through final, third reading in the Nova Scotia Legislature with our suggested changes.
